Presentation on Diversity Consciousness
I did a presentation on diversity consciousness in professional development course. It was a new concept for me and my classmates. Diversity consciousness is about understanding and respecting the cultural differences that exist in an environment. The presentation was completed using my communication and research skills. Diversity is integral for organizational growth therefore; the assignment reflects the competency of professionalism.
Reflection:
The assignment helped me in understanding the importance of cultural diversity at workplace, as it brings different ideas, values, and strategies on the table. Saudi Arabia is a culturally diverse country and we must learn how to accept and respect others. I learned how to ask questions about other cultures without stereotyping or disrespecting them through this assignment. I would like to interview non-Arabs when doing the assignment again. I recommend my fellow mates to always respect other cultures, religions, and races.
Report on Effects of Power on Negotiation
I recently made a report about the effects of power on negotiation in the professional development course. I addressed various personal and professional situations in which the powerful negotiator wins the case. The task was completed using research and communication skills. The nature of topic is the reason why it represents the competency of professionalism.
Reflection:
During this assignment, I learned how to use one’s interpersonal communication skills for effective negotiation. I also learned about this importance of non-verbal communication and behavioral messages when negotiating. The examples of various work-life situations were of great help and relatable and taught me the needs of the practical world. When redoing this assignment, I would like to quote examples from personal life as well as we often negotiate in our daily lives. My fellow mates should present a short play or act in class to explain the effect of power on negotiation.
